Burroughs, the son of a Presbyterian preacher and an incorrigible hell-raiser throughout his early life, here relates his misdeeds. Having grown up in Hanover, N.H., he attends Dartmouth for a while but finds it advisable to leave and heads into the wider world, becoming a thief, counterfeiter, schoolteacher and seducer of schoolgirls, although eventually earning respectability. Condition of this book: Front joint cracked and very delicate. Backstrip has a horizontal tear near the tail of the spine. Preliminary leaves lacking, book begins at title page.
