WINTHROP, Theodore Life in the Open Air
WINTHROP, THEODORE. Life in the Open Air, duodecimo, Henry Holt, 1876, pp. (v), 374, yellow cloth boards stamped and decorated in black, gilt lettering on spine, frontis engraving of Mount Katahdin. Contains three essays on the author's Civil War service; first edition was released in 1863 soon after Winthrop was killed. Title essay covers a hunting trip in the Northeast in which the author shoots a moose in Maine. Condition of this book: Boards are rubbed and darkening, with a small stain in the upper right front. Pages are age-toned with previous owner's name penciled on front endpaper and inked onto title page.
