SHORT, C.W., and STANLEY-BROWN, R. Public Buildings, A Survey of Architecture of Projects Constructed ... With the Assistance of the Public Works Administration, Washington: Government Printing Office, 1939. Heavy quarto, pp. xxiii, 697, blue cloth boards with silver stamped lettering to spine and front, extensive illustration with halftone photos and floor plans. Traverses the U.S. with a survey of the public-building spree that gave jobs to many unemployed people during the Depression. The authors say they chose the best examples of all kinds of work: "Size and cost have not been criterions in choosing these examples. The smallest sewage-disposal plant is given equal standing with the greatest power projects, and many very expensive buildings have been omitted altogether as having little or no architectural merit." Condition of this book: Jacket chipped at edges, darkened at spine. Small abrasion to top edge of boards and head of spine, leaves' edges darkened with a few spots, interior very good, images fine.
