[Costume design.] Folio of 57 color lithographs showing various design motifs for Chinese opera-style outfits, unknown artists, 1957. Prints measure slightly less than 15x13 inches or 37x32cm, in a wooden box with silk-covered fold-over boards and a four-page index and introduction, in Chinese. A former owner has written an English translation of some of the text as follows. Title: "Sketches from Chinese opera-style outifts." Summary of introduction: "all these sketches of Chinese opera-style outfits have been collected from different on the mainland, China. (It took many months for this special collection.)" "This is the last available copy in HK market." Some of the plates have 2 or more images, and the index calls for 73 total. The present set is lacking four images, probably on three plates. What's here shows bright and lively designs with various traditional motifs including dragons, flowers, colorful birds and abstract themes. Condition of this folio: Prints mostly fine but some have light spotting/foxing visible in margins. Box is fine but fold-over covers are cracked at joints.
