McCLELLAN, GEORGE B. Army of the Potomac Report Aug. 3, 1863, With an Account of the Campaign in Western Virginia, New York: Sheldon and Company, 1864. Very good in fine binding. Quarto, one of 250 printed, pp. 484, frontis is folding map of Antietam battlefield, new (2011) black cloth binding, red morocco label on spine, gilt lettering, untrimmed edges, some leaves unopened. With single-plate maps of the Peninsula and the Siege of Yorktown. The Union commander here gives an account of his Civil War campaigns in Virginia and Maryland, marked by the disappointed siege of Richmond, the mess that was the Peninsular retreat, and the culmination at Antietam and the single bloodiest day of the war. The general relies on official orders, letters, and memory to pull together a narrative explaining his tenure. Scarce. See Dornbusch 3, 1555 for the smaller, trade issue; not in Nevins; OCLC locates three copies.
