quarto, Aperture, 1982, unpaginated (about 30 plates plus captions and 19 pages of text), maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering on front and spine. Scarce hardcover edition, first issue after 10 collectors copies and a 100-book limited edition. This is a collection gathered from years of Levenson's carnival prowling, with the newbie Gray tagging along one year to chronicle the bizarre spectacle of a sideshow in Nashville. Gray, who was a one-of-a-kind performance artist as well as a writer, was severely injured in a car crash in Ireland in 2003 and never recovered, lapsing into depression and committing suicide about a year later. Condition of this book: Near fine. Dust jacket shows light wear, no tears. Pages clean and tight.
